MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. - The 2018 season was a difficult one for the Muskegon Heights Tigers. Going 0-9 last season, the team is struggling with declining numbers heading into this season.
The Tigers had 54 players sign up for football but only have between 10 and 20 routinely showing up for practice.
Tigers head coach Van Parker Jr. says the season will come down to consistency on and off the field.
"We're heading in the right direction," Parker Jr. said, now in his second season as head coach. "Kids are starting to get it. It's the challenges of we're basically fathers and we have to teach these guys how to be men, walk with their head up, just how to be smart and make good decisions."
The Tigers open the season on Aug. 30 against Potterville.
