There's some steam building for this #RallyGoose.
If you missed it, the Detroit Tigers-Los Angeles Angels game on Wednesday at Comerica Park was interrupted by a couple of rain delays.
After the grounds crew at Comerica Park tried to shoo it away, the bird eventually tried to fly away, but crashed into a video scoreboard and then into the lower deck.
Luckily, a veterinarian was in the crowd, came over to pick up the goose, which was eventually released from the stadium unharmed.
The moment became popular pretty quick, and, as things in sports on TV can do, went viral with the #RallyGoose.
The term may have stuck after the Tigers scored five runs in the sixth inning, after the goose incident, to win, 6-1.
Thursday morning, Tigers catcher James McCann steered into the proverbial skid (so to speak), posting a picture of what seemed to be a plastic goose perched on the floor in the Tigers' clubhouse.
Lo and behold, with a "new member" of the team in tow and perched on the railing of the dugout, the Tigers opened their first inning with five runs.
Ironic that this new mascot comes against the Angels, which had his 2002 World Series run punctuated by the Rally Monkey.
Tigers fans of a certain age might remember 2006, when the team unexpectedly emerged from the doldrums to win the AL pennant. During one late-inning rally that season, pitcher Nate Robertson stuffed his mouth with "Big League Chew," giving life to the "gum time" rallying cry.
