The Grand Valley State women's team used a dominant first quarter and fourth quarter to rout top-ranked Ashland, 94-61.
It's the first time in program history that the Lakers have defeated the number one ranked team in the country. The win also snaps Ashland's 69-game regular season winning streak.
GVSU led by as many as 15 points in the first quarter as they built a dominant lead. The Lakers led by 13 at the half before outscoring Ashland 31-8 in the 4th quarter to put the game away.
Former South Christian star Jenn DeBoer led the way with a career-high 32 points thanks to 6-of-11 shooting from three.
The win pushes the Lakers to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in conference action. Their next game is Saturday night at GVSU Fieldhouse Arena at 6 pm against Wayne State.
