Harry Potter has learned quickly the misery of Detroit Lions fandom

Maybe the Detroit Lions can get some help from someone at Hogwarts?

It feels like that may be the team's only hope these days. And we learned recently they may have a connection to work on.

Daniel Radcliffe, who played the title character in the Harry Potter films, was a guest on "Late Night with Seth Meyers" last week.

Radcliffe and his girlfriend, actress Erin Darke, hosted Thanksgiving dinner in New York for a few people. But Radcliffe said part of his Thanksgiving tradition is now to watch football, specifically the Lions since Darke, a native of Flint, is a fan.

"There's always a Lions game on Thanksgiving, with the misery or joy that that entails," Radcliffe said.

"More often than not, misery," Meyers interjected. (And the Thanksgiving loss to the Bears didn't help.)

"It has been," Radcliffe confirmed. "I feel like, there's a certain, heartbreak is part of being a Lions fan.

"In the sort of way like being an English football fan," Radcliffe continued. England hasn't won the World Cup since 1966, but reached the quarterfinals for just the second time in the 52 years since this past summer.

"In growing up (rooting for England), it was mixed in with a lot of heartbreak and missed penalties."

Heartbreak, yes, but the Lions would love to say they've missed out on a lot of penalties over the years.

This isn't Radcliffe's first public proclamation of Detroit sports fandom. Back in 2016, then-Red Wings forward Tomas Tatar posted a photo of he and Radcliffe, wearing a Pavel Datsyuk jersey, in the Wings' dressing room.
