GRFC Women win Midwest Region Championship against Lansing

The team will now defend their title in the UWS National Championship.

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The GRFC Women beat out Lansing United 4-2 for the United Women's Soccer Midwest Region Playoff Championship.

The team took a lead at the end of the first half when Sam Maher scored the first goal.

In the second half of the game, Lansing United scored on GRFC. Then Maher scored again, bringing GRFC back in the lead 2-1.

GRFC Captain, Marti Corby, went on to score twice in the 77th and 82nd minute, making GRFC's lead even bigger with 4-1.

Lansing United got one more goal before the end of the game, making the final score 4-2.

The team will now represent Grand Rapids in the UWS National Championship as the defending national champions. The GRFC Women will play at the East Lansing Soccer Complex for the semifinals on Saturday, July 21. The semifinal winners will face off on Sunday, July 22.
