Driver in 'severe' crash walks to nearby house for help

Her vehicle was a short distance away from the house with significant damage.

A 29-year-old Watervliet woman is in the hospital after a "severe" crash early Sunday morning.

According to Sheriff Daniel E. Abbott, deputies were sent to a home in the 27000 block of 60th Ave just after 2:15 a.m. on reports of a injured woman knocking on the door, asking for help.

When deputies arrived on scene, they determined the woman had been in a severe crash and her vehicle was as short distance away from the home with significant damage, Abbott detailed.

The vehicle crashed into a wooded area, striking several trees and was completely disabled with the airbags deployed. The Watervliet woman was able to get out of the vehicle and walk to a nearby house, where police and medical responders were called. She was taken to the hospital for treatment of her injuries but is expected to be okay.

The crash remains under investigation, but Abbott reports that it is not believed that the woman was wearing a seat belt and alcohol may be a factor in the incident.
