Gas prices go down in Grand Rapids, national average goes up

Gas prices in Grand Rapids have fallen 6.7 cents per gallon in the past week.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — You may want to consider filling up your tank while gas prices continue a downward trend.

GasBuddy is reporting that gas prices in Grand Rapids fell 6.7 cents per gallon in the past week. Average price for gas was $2.42/g on Sunday, Feb. 24, according to a 246-station survey. 

The national average has gone up 6.1 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging about $239/g.

Average gasoline prices on February 25 in Grand Rapids have ranged widely over the last five years:

$2.53/g in 2018
$2.32/g in 2017
$1.73/g in 2016
$2.34/g in 2015
$3.63/g in 2014

Including the change locally during the past week, prices yesterday were 10.4 cents per gallon lower than a year ago and are 18.9 cents per gallon higher than a month ago. The national average has increased 11.6 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 10.8 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.

Areas near Grand Rapids and their current gas price climate:

Kalamazoo: $2.36/g, down 10.6 cents per gallon from last week's $2.46/g.
Lansing: $2.40/g, down 6.4 cents per gallon from last week's $2.46/g.
South Bend: $2.45/g, up 16.9 cents per gallon from last week's $2.28/g.
