EMMETT CHARTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. — One person is dead after a fiery semi accident on West I-94 Freeway and 11 Mile Road. Michigan State Police identified the victim on Friday as Peter Monroe, 48, of Mendon, Mich.
The accident happened around 1 a.m. Thursday. Rashad Dobbins, a 40-year-old man from Belleville, Mich., was merging onto I-94 Westbound from the 11 Mile entrance ramp, when it was struck from behind by another semi.
Monroe who was driving the other semi, died on scene. Dobbins was not injured. The crash is still under investigation, but Michigan State Police Marshall Post wrote in a press release that speed is believed to be a factor.
