Kalamazoo woman only minorly hurt after crash with train

The crash happened on the train tracks near the Meijer on Shaver Road.

PORTAGE, Mich. — A Kalamazoo woman, 54, is only minorly hurt after she was hit by an oncoming train on the tracks near the Meijer on Shaver Road, according to the Portage Police Department. 

She was leaving the parking lot of Midwest Fastener Corp around 4 p.m. Friday. The train tracks cross over its driveway, where she was stopped when the front of her car got hit by a Grand Elk train. 

She was transported to Bronson Hospital to be treated for her non-life-threatening injuries. The train driver, also a Kalamazoo resident, was not injured. 

The Portage Police are investigating this crash and anyone with information is asked to call them at 269-329-4567 or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.
