Skateboarder hit, dragged by a mini-van in Kent County

The sheriff's department says the man was pinned under the vehicle and freed my other pedestrians and first responders.

GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. - A skateboarder fell onto South Division Avenue in Grand Rapids and was hit by a mini-van.

It happened Saturday afternoon on South Division Avenue under M-6. According to the Kent County Sheriff's Department, a man in his early 30s was riding his skateboard on the sidewalk when he fell into the roadway and into traffic.

He was hit by a Chrysler mini-van and drug a short distance. He was pinned under the van and freed by other pedestrians and first responders.

The skateboarder was taken to Metro Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver and occupants of the mini-van were not injured. The driver was not cited.

Cutlerville Fire Department also responded.
