Mother Nature is bringing the green this St. Patrick's Day

Rain moves in Thursday afternoon through Friday followed by some lake-effect snow Saturday.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Soak up today's forecast, because changes are coming to end this week. Today will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy and milder. Highs are expected to be in the mid-40s.

While temperatures remain consistent, spring-like showers are expected as we track into the end of the week. By 6 p.m. tomorrow evening, steady showers will bring soaking rain to the area. This comes as a low-pressure system arrives in the area. This will bring us a push of warmer air, taking temperatures into the upper 40s Thursday afternoon into Friday morning. This warm-up allows precipitation to arrive as rain and stay that way through 2 p.m. Friday afternoon.

As the low-pressure system exits the area, we will wrap in much colder air, causing our temperatures to tumble Friday afternoon into Saturday. This will cause the lake effect to fire up.

Rainfall totals will likely accumulate between 0.5" and 1.0". While this will be a soaking rain, we do not anticipate any flooding hazards. As of right now, lake-effect looks to bring 2+ inches to portions of the region. This is expected to quickly melt away, as sunshine and warmer temperatures return Sunday into Monday.

Temperature-wise, we will start St. Patrick's Day warmer to start and cool off throughout the day. We will start our morning in the upper 40s and end our daylight hours in the 30s.
