New survey finds that distracted driving is on the rise

Seriously, stop texting and driving.

In a new survey published by AAA, 9 out of 10 drivers believe that distracted driving is on the rise. Ironically, the 2017 Traffic Safety Index polled people and 45% of drivers admitted they text while drove. Another 35% admitted to reading or sending an e-mail while on the road.

It’s no surprise then that nearly 88% of respondents also said that distracted driving was what worried them most while on the road. Other fears included traffic congestion (75% of people labeled this as their second fear), aggressive driving and drunk driving.

The other startling statistic? Using AAA research, they estimate that distracted driving could be the cause of up to 58% of all accidents. Time to put that phone on airplane mode.
