Muskegon County students head back to school

A number of students, including many in Muskegon County, head back to school following Labor Day.

For many students in West Michigan, summer has run its course. Those in Muskegon County packed up their backpacks Tuesday morning.

13 ON YOUR SIDE's Angela Cunningham was live in Muskegon Heights, covering the first day of their school year.

In Muskegon Heights, the school year starts with a fist bump from community members and school staff. It's a time-honored traditions that happens each year, hopeful that it improves school moral on the first day. 

Another update for schools in Muskegon County, students in Whitehall, Montague, and Holton districts will be able to get free breakfast before classes. It's free to all students, as each district was awarded a $330,000 grant to feed the kids for the next three years. Breakfast will be available for students after they arrive in the morning, just before classes start up for the day.
