LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Supporters and opponents of Michigan's mandatory motorcycle helmet law continue to lobby Governor Granholm. Both sides held events at the state Capitol on Thursday. A bill that would repeal the mandatory helmet law is on Granholm's desk. While Granholm has not expressly said she will veto the bill, her office has indicated she doesn't see any reason to change the current law. The legislation would let riders 21 and older decide whether to wear a helmet. To qualify to ride without a helmet, motorcyclists would need to pass a safety class or have been licensed for two years. They also would need to carry extra personal injury protection insurance coverage.
