A 65-year-old Michigan State University employee, who was hit by a motorcycle Friday while walking on campus, is still on a ventilator at Sparrow Hospital, recovering from her injuries.
Evelone "Lonnie" Herman, who works at MSU's Eli Broad College of Business, was in a marked crosswalk, crossing North Shaw Lane about 8:15 p.m., when the motorcycle struck her, police said. She was heading to a parking garage, family members said.
The driver of the motorcycle, a 55-year-old Holt woman, also was injured and hospitalized. She was released today, police said. One of Herman's sons, Doug Herman, 42, of LaFayette, Ga., said today his mother is steadily improving. She is unable to speak because of the ventilator.
"She's coming around," he said. "They're slowly weaning her off life support."
Evelone Herman suffered a broken pelvis, punctured lung and other fractures. On her left side, half of her ribs are broken; the others are cracked, Doug Herman said.
MSU police are continuing to investigate the accident, said Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor.
