Daniel Grams, 53, of Kent City was sentenced Tuesday for robbing the West Michigan Credit Union, on Front Street in Grand Rapids. Grams was sentenced to six years in prison and will serve three years of federal supervision following his release from prison.
Chief U.S. District Judge Robert Holmes Bell's sentencing of Grams exceeded the U.S. sentencing guidelines for this offense. The judge sited Grams prior criminal history, which included felony drug and burglary convictions and his attempt to rob the same credit union a second time on January 29.
Grams admitted to robbing the credit after he was arrested while attempting to rob the same credit union three weeks later. An employee of the credit union recognized Grams' vehicle from the robbery on January 9, locked the doors and called the Grand Rapids Police. A GRPD officer stopped Grams' vehicle at the scene and found a gray stocking cap used during the original robbery.
