GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)- Students at Holy Spirit school started their day off by giving to a popular non-profit organization.

More than 300 students, along with faculty and staff "Walked with Spirit" to Family Fare on Lake Michigan Drive. Once they arrived, members of student council presented a $2,000 check to store managers. The money will go toward the store's support of Special Olympics of Michigan.

Student council members Casey Norder and Blake Russo say it was a rewarding moment to be able to pass along the large donation.

"The class that has the most pennies by the end of the week wins, but you could also bring in cash and silver coins to sabotage the other classrooms," said Norder.

"We decided to choose them because we like so much about what they do and they give other people a chance," said Russo.

Family Fare treated the students to refreshments for their hard work. It hopes to raise a total of $6,000 through community donations.

Special Olympics Michigan State Summer Games take place May 28th - 30th at Central Michigan University.
