GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)- Chris Jansen, a South Christian High School Senior, is recovering from a head injury at Spectrum - Butterworth.

Varsity Football Coach Mark Tamminga tells WZZM 13 News that Jansen was hit during practice last Thursday. Tamminga says Jansen "sat out a few plays" and then returned to practice. The coach says Jansen appeared fine afterwards but got a headache when he went home and vomited. According to Tamminga, Jansen's family took him to an urgent care facility and then he was taken to the hospital downtown for tests. Tamminga says Jansen was "very ill" by then and underwent emergency brain surgery Thursday night.

Jansen's CarePages reports the boy is recovering. Coach Tamminga just visited with Jansen today and says he is "doing great," is alert and is expected to make a full recovery.

Coach Tamminga says the Jansen family is thankful to the community for their prayers.
