CHESTER TWP., Mich. (WZZM) -- A man is dead and three people were seriously injured in an Ottawa County wreck.

Shortly after 4 p.m. Friday afternoon, Ottawa County Sheriff Deputies responded to a two-car accident. Police say 61-year-old Sparta resident Thomas Hammond was driving West on Wilsion Street and ran a stop sign at the corner of 24th Ave.

Hammond's car was hit on the passenger side by a Chevy Suburban heading south on 24th. The SUV was driven by 38-year-old Michelle Trissel from Conklin.

Hammond was pinned inside and pronounced dead at the scene by emergency workers.

Trissel was carrying young passengers: 14-year-old Chelsee Bursma and 8-year-old Carlee Bursma. The two girls are in serious condition; Trissel is in critical.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's department has the crash under investigation. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
