LANSING - Mich. (WZZM) Legislation signed today by Gov. Jennifer Granholm will exempt baby-sitting from the state's day-care laws.

Public Act 155, as it's called, exempts people performing uncompensated child-care and baby-sitting from needing a day-care license.

It also defines baby-sitting as caring for another persons child for less than $600 a year.

The measure came after the state told a West Michigan woman to stop watching her friend's children before school.

In August, the Department of Human Services sent a warning letter to Lisa Snyder, threatening her with fines and jail time if she continued what the state considered "an illegal day care operation."

The state Senate unanimously voted in favor of the bill.
