COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (WZZM) - It's a holiday tradition as dependable and enduring as turkey dinner.
On Thanksgiving night people camp outside certain stores so they can buy Black Friday bargains in the morning.
"I've waited in line every year for the past 6 years," says Josh Drost.
Drost had his tent pitched outside the Best Buy store in Comstock Park.
Shoppers started setting up tents outside the Best Buy Thursday afternoon.
They know the store only has a few of the deeply discounted laptops, flat screens and appliances mentioned in their Black Friday advertisements, so they have to be among the first inside when the doors open at 5:00 a.m.
"I'm going to save $1,000 on a washer and dryer," says shopper Annie Nickerson.
"I don't want to do this but I want a computer," says shopper Keith Remelts.
Many say the waiting is part of what makes the experience worthwhile.
"I mean, it's cool," says shopper Alex Poiniaki. "Just show up, hang out and chill."
"Just doing something different some people never dare to do," says Nickerson.
"Part of the fun is just sitting out here," says shopper Corrie Almy. "You get to talk to other people. It's so worth it. It's part of Black Friday."
Annie Nickerson says if she waits 10 hours and saves $1,000 on a washer and dryer it's like earning $100 an hour.
She says that's pretty good pay for just sitting around.
