19th annual Silent Night Memorial Service honors fallen firefighters

The parade recognized Kent County firefighters who lost their lives within the last year, whether they were in the line of duty or not.

CASCADE, Mich. — Kent County Fire Department members who lost their lives within the last year were honored Thursday night at an annual parade.

Fire trucks turned on their lights - with no sound - to pay tribute to them, whether they died in the line of duty or not at the 19th annual West Michigan Silent Night Memorial Service and Parade.

The event was hosted by the Cascade Township Fire Department.

“This evening is a way to make sure the bravery and dedication of fallen firefighters are remembered forever,” said Cascade Fire Chief Adam Magers.

Each Kent County Fire Department had the opportunity to announce the names of whom they were remembering while bells sounded and bagpipers played "Amazing Grace."
