2 found dead after home is engulfed in flames

Deputies said it's currently unknown what caused the fire, but it is an active investigation.

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. — Two people died in a house fire early Thursday morning.

Deputies from the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office said around 4:30 a.m. they were dispatched to a structure fire in the 4400 block of 24th Avenue in Bloomingdale Township. 

When they arrived, they said the home was completely engulfed in flames. Deputies found one person asleep in an unattached garage who was woken up and taken to safety. 

During the investigation, it was found that the home was occupied by two people, a 64-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man. Both residents were found dead inside the home. 

Bloomingdale Fire was assisted by the Paw Paw and Pine Grove Fire Departments in putting out the fire. The State Fire Marshall also arrived on the scene and helped with the investigation.

It's currently unknown what caused the fire, but it is an active investigation, deputies said.
