Battle Creek police are searching for a 34-year-old Battle Creek man after a reported domestic assault and then a hit and run accident.

Police reported the crash at 8:36 p.m. Friday at the intersection of North McKinley Avenue and East Emmett Street.

A 31-year-old Coldwater man told officers he was westbound on Emmett Street when a SUV northbound on McKinley Avenue failed to stop and struck his SUV. A 35-year-old female passenger was taken to Bronson Battle Creek for treatment of minor injuries.

Police said the driver of the vehicle which failed to stop fled the scene. Police said the man was apparently fleeing from a home in the first block of North McKinley Avenue where a woman, 28, and the mother of the man's children, said she was assaulted by him and then he fled in her car.

Calhoun County Sheriff Department deputies assisted.
