A fire early Saturday at 51 Blanch St. in Battle Creek is considered suspicious.

Battle Creek Fire Marshal Quincy Jones began his investigations Saturday after two early morning structure fires, including one at a vacant house he called suspicious.

That fire was reported at 3:31 a.m. at 51 Blanch St. Firefighters said they found fire in the first and second floors of the house.

A back door was open but firefighters had to remove boards from windows to fight the blaze. Damage was estimated at $32,000. Officials do not know who owns the property.

Earlier, firefighters were called to a garage fire the home of Emily Metzger at 151 N. Union St.

Firefighters found the detached garage in flames and said the building and a vehicle inside were destroyed. Damage was estimated at $40,000.

No injuries were reported in either fire.
