HOLLAND, Mich. - Detectives from the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office have seized a 2016 Dodge Charge they believe to have been used in a hit-and-run accident that killed a woman.
Police said Tuesday afternoon that Melissa Yates, 41, of Zeeland, died from her injuries.
Detectives developed information that led to a search warrant at a residence on W. Lakewood Boulevard in Holland Township. With the warrant, investigators found the Charger and other items related to the incident, but they are still developing information as to a possible suspect driver of the car.
The hit-and-run occurred just after midnight on Tuesday, Sept. 10 in the parking lot of the 136th Ave. One Stop in Holland, the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office says.
Investigators say a fight broke out between two sets of people in the parking lot. During the fight, Yates was knocked to the ground.
According to a press release from the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office, a white Dodge Charger was seen hitting the woman with the front end of the vehicle, running her over. The driver of the vehicle did not stop, driving out of the parking lot headed south.
Yates was taken to Holland Community Hospital before being transferred to a hospital in Grand Rapids with critical injuries where she later died.
