City Council is considering selling the city’s fire station along with the parking lot to the east of it.
John Wilson of Morris Street, LLC and developer Bob Jacobson have been working with the city to develop a mixed use development in that area, which would include the old bowling alley and old NAPA building.
The developer is proposing to demolish all existing buildings on the block (Ludington Avenue, Rath Avenue, Loomis Street, Robert Street), except for the Rath Building and portions of what is now Maude’s Garage. The developer would then construct two new buildings, one on the north half of the block and one on the south half of the block. Each building would have commercial space on the first floor for professional offices and retail users. The second through fourth floors would be set aside for low income residential units, 30 units in each building. There would also be parking spaces available for public use on the block.
The Council will consider selling the entire south portion of the block, including the parking lot and fire station, for $500,000 or to sell only the parking lot for $250,000. A new fire station would be built on Tinkham Avenue east of Staffon Street on the old Lakeside Lumber property.
City Council meets Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at city hall, 400 S. Harrison St.
