High school students from Muskegon County hosted a march on April 21 urging lawmakers from the second congressional district to pass gun legislation.

The event was a follow-up to when students called on Rep. Bill Huizenga earlier this month to host a town hall to address gun violence. The students from the Youth Activism Coalition posted a video on Facebook asking for the town hall.

Saturday's march went from Muskegon High School to Hackley Park. At the park, there were a number of speakers and booths set up by activist groups.

This march is another demonstration in a string of rallies, walk outs and town halls that students across Michigan and the country have held in the wake of the Feb. 14 Parkland shooting that left 17 high schoolers dead.

On March 14, there were nationwide walkouts, and in West Michigan, students from nearly 20 schools walked out to advocate for common sense gun laws.

Then on March 24, there was a national March for Our Lives in Washington D.C. where more than one million people participated. In West Michigan, there were local marches held in Grand Rapids, Holland, Muskegon and Kalamazoo.

Following the marches, town halls were held nationally, including one in Grand Rapids to discuss gun legislation.

The latest event was on April 20. To acknowledge the 19th anniversary of the Columbine shooting and push for gun legislation, students walked out of high schools nationwide on April 20.
