Man shot, killed in Norton Shores bar

A fist fight started near the bar area and a handgun was pulled after a few punches were thrown.

NORTON SHORES, Mich. — A man was shot and killed early Thursday morning at a bar in Norton Shores, police say.

The incident happened around 1:20 a.m. at the MI Bar, located at 2389 W Sherman Boulevard. Police were called to the scene after shots were fired.

Upon arrival, officers found a man with several gunshot wounds. Medical responders attempted CPR but were unsuccessful. The victim, a 27-year-old Muskegon man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A witness told police that the suspect and victim knew each other. A fist fight started near the bar area and a handgun was pulled after a few punches were thrown. Police say the suspect shot the victim multiple times before walking out of the bar.

The suspect is described as a white man in his forties. He is around six feet tall and weighs about 170 pounds.

Police say several witnesses were inside the bar when the shooting happened but left before officers arrived. The department is asking all witnesses to call the police department to be identified.
