Former First Lady Barbara Bush has been battling health issues, but will no longer seek medical treatment.

ET obtained a statement from the Bush family on Sunday, which was later also posted on Twitter, after she had been hospitalized several times in recent months.

"Following a recent series of hospitalizations, and after consulting her family and doctors, Mrs. Bush, now age 92, has decided not to seek additional medical treatment and will instead focus on comfort care," the statement said. "It will not surprise those who know her that Barbara Bush has been a rock in the face of her failing health, worrying not for herself -- thanks to her abiding faith -- but for others. She is surrounded by a family she adores, and appreciates the many kind messages and especially the prayers she is receiving."

She and Former President George H.W. Bush have been married for 73 years and have both been dealing with health issues. They were both hospitalized in January 2017, after he experienced a "shortness of breath" likely associated with pneumonia. She was also hospitalized after experiencing fatigue and coughing.

CNN has reported that she has been suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (also known as COPD) and also congestive heart failure.

On Sunday, The View co-host Meghan McCain reached out to the Bush family. McCain's father, Sen. John McCain, has been battling stage 4 brain cancer.

"I am sending all my love and prayers to the entire Bush family today," she wrote. "Barbara Bush is a woman of great strength, patriotism and an iconic first lady of our times who has touched and inspired countless lives."
