Medical marijuana ordinance passes in Muskegon

"When given an opportunity by the state in order to regulate and to monitor, I'm going to take that opportunity so that we're not left scrambling to try and catch up later on in the game."

MUSKEGON, Mich. - Medical marijuana businesses are on their way to Muskegon.

On Tuesday night, city leaders approved an ordinance in a 4 to 3 vote. The ordinance will allow marijuana growers and dispensaries to operate in a designated area. The exact location has not been determined but the city did not put a limit on how many businesses will be accepted.

Muskegon's Mayor Stephen Gawron voted in favor of the ordinance.

"When given an opportunity by the state in order to regulate and to monitor, I'm going to take that opportunity so that we're not left scrambling to try and catch up later on in the game," says Gawron.

Muskegon Heights and Egelston Township passed similar ordinances in the past week.
