The Child Abuse Council of Muskegon County is the main agency working to end the abuse.

MUSKEGON, Mich. - April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. In Muskegon County, leaders held a gathering at the their Blue Ribbon Garden to remember the 1,300 confirmed victims of abuse or neglect in the community in 2017.

The Child Abuse Council of Muskegon County is the main agency working to end the abuse.

It's receiving support in that effort from police, prosecutors, judges and social services professionals. All say community members must join the effort to end abuse.

"Just making yourself aware of what to look for in children who have been abused and neglected --supporting agencies and supporting families, and parents who are in need of resources," said Kyleen Gee, executive director at the Child Abuse Council of Muskegon County. "We can end it."

The Blue Ribbon 5K: No Excuse for Abuse walk/run will be held Saturday, April 28, at Heritage Landing. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the race starts at 9 a.m.
