Woman used bomb threat to steal from Gaines Township Target

Victoria Smith was arrested for calling in a bomb threat to the Gaines Township Target last November.

Victoria Smith, 23, was arrested for calling in a bomb threat to the Gaines Township Target on Nov. 28, 2017. The 23-year-old woman made the threat as a distraction so she could steal from the store.

Smith told Target employees on the phone that they had eight minutes to evacuate the building before a bomb would blow up.

Target and a Staples store, which is next door, were evacuated. Law enforcement searched the buildings and they did not locate any suspicious packages.

Investigators were, however, able to determine where the phone call originated from, and they arrested Smith on Feb. 26.

Smith is charged with making a false report of a bomb threat, and she is currently in custody at the Kent County Correctional Facility on a $10,000 bond.
