GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan — A 16-year-old was shot in the back in a Grand Rapids home early Sunday morning, according to police.

Officers said they initially responded to a call for shots fired at a home in the 700 block of Ardmore Street SE around 1:30 a.m. They said they found evidence of shots being fired, but no victims.

Police said investigators cleared the scene around 4 a.m. and shortly afterward, another call came in for shots fired in the same area.

When officers arrived at the scene they said they found a 16-year-old with a gunshot wound in his back.

Police said the initial investigation shows the shots came from outside the back of the home, hitting the victim inside on the second story.

Police said the victim was brought to a local hospital and is expected to survive.

A suspect has not been arrested yet.
