Tots and Taps | Tater tot, beer festival coming to LMCU Ballpark

The festival will feature more than 25 tater tot vendors and over 150 beer options.

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. — The first tater tot festival West Michigan has ever seen is making its way to LMCU Ballpark this spring.

The Tots and Taps Festival will be held on Saturday, May 4 from 3-8 p.m. at the ballpark and will feature more than 25 tater tot vendors and over 150 beer options.

The company hosting the festival, Outlier Events, is based in Kalamazoo and is best known for its Donut and Beer Festival. Since then, it's also started Michigan's first Taco and Tequila Festival and Mac and Cheese Festival.

Kendall Soto, the general manager at Outlier Events, said the tater tot vendors are planning on getting creative with their recipes.

"We've seen already from our vendors that they are coming up with some pretty unique options, so we're really excited for that," Soto said. "I've seen some breakfast items so far, some 'tachos' and then some people have been able to tie in dessert options with tater tots."

Sotos said there are four different ticket options for the event and each is all-inclusive. The tickets come with food and drink tokens with the choice of alcoholic or nonalcoholic beverages.

Tickets will go on sale to priority list members on March 7 and there will be a two-week window until tickets are open to the general public.

In addition to food and drinks, the event will feature live music and competitions.

There will be performances from Tennessee Whiskey, a Chris Stapleton tribute, and a viral Napoleon Dynamite impersonator, Patrick Cutler, will be judging tater tots from different vendors.

Those willing to try their hand in a tater tot-eating contest will be presided over by a Guinness World Record tot-eater.

"We're really excited, with this being the first one ever, and think that this is going to be one of our more unique events," Soto said. "It's going to be really special and (we're) excited to bring it to Grand Rapids for the first time ever."
