GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan — Music and superhero lovers, unite! A familiar favorite is coming to the Grand Rapids Symphony.

The Grand Rapids Symphony plans to perform the award-winning score of the Black Panther on Feb. 16 and 17.

Two showtimes will be offered for the concert at DeVos Performance Hall, one at 7 p.m. on Friday and another 2 p.m. on Saturday.

"Black Panther in Concert," conducted by Grand Rapids Symphony Assistant Conductor Duo Shen, tells the story of the T'Challa, who has been crowned the new king of Wakanda after his father's death. He's challenged by an old enemy, Killmonger, who threatens the fate of the world.

We invite the community to come see your Grand Rapids Symphony for this immersive cinematic experience that is truly a treat for the senses."

World-renowned musician Massamba Diop will join the symphony for the performance. His work with the tama, also called a talking drum, is featured prominently in the film's score.

“The rythmatic energy Massamba brings to this performance will be an exciting surprise for guests,” Shen said. “If you’re a fan of the film, you’ll feel even closer to the story by having the captivating score played right in front of you. We’re so excited for to bring this experience to our community.”
