Where, when you can sweat it out for Make-A-Wish Michigan

Organizers hope that by pushing through the workout, people can think about the challenges children push through every day.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A local cycling group is opening up a way for community members to join them in granting wishes for children experiencing critical and life-changing illnesses.

On Monday, March 11, Workout for Wishes will take place at CityFlats Hotel in downtown Grand Rapids.

Community members can join a free community workout session led by The Barre Code which will include cardio, stretching and mindfulness exercises.

"The power that we have as a community to be able to grant these wishes and donate to these families, and really transform these children's lives with critical illnesses, it's just truly, truly incredible," said Lauren Froman, who organized the event alongside Mackenzie Miller.

Froman and Miller are members of a cycling team taking part in the 37th annual Wish-A-Mile cycling tour a bicycle tour raising money for Make-A-Wish Michigan.

Their goal for this year is to grant 10 wishes, with each wish being around $10,000.

Wishes can include helping families cover the cost of treatment for their children, room makeovers and family trips for children that Froman said experience so much every day.

"With just the Wish-A-Mile itself, and you know, being able to bring this class to this space, it's the fight that you put up with to ride your bike to finish the miles, to finish that workout, to do one more minute of a plank, it is nothing compared to the fight that these kids have to face every day," said Froman.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the event will also feature local vendors and opportunities for participants to socialize with one another.

While the event is free, they are asking for a suggested donation of $10 to help their goal, although people can give an amount of their choice.

"All ages, anybody, men, women, you know, anyone can show up and there will be something for everyone," said Froman.

Participants are also asked to bring their own yoga mat.

Information for reserving a spot can be found here.
