‘I want to make them blessed like me’ | 9-year-old collects gifts for children’s hospital ahead of Christmas holiday

A fourth-grader is hoping this act of kindness will help those who might not be able to celebrate a traditional Christmas.

MUSKEGON, Mich. — A young Michigander is working to ensure that children in the hospital are still able to have a merry Christmas.

9-year-old Khiren Guy has spent the past month collecting presents for those at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.

“Since kids can't really go [to] places for the holidays, I'm bringing the holidays to them,” he said.

With the help of friends and family over at Corinthian Baptist Church, he’s collected more than 30 gifts. On Friday afternoon, he plans to hand out the presents. Guy said that’s something he’s proud of.

“It feels good,” he said. “It feels amazing to give thanks to the people because I want to make them blessed like me — and I want them to have a merry Christmas.”

Guy is also the face of KG News, a social media page on Facebook where Guy highlights members of the community and promotes positivity.

Whether it’s giving a gift to those in the hospital or the people we come across each and every day, Guy hopes others might follow in his footsteps.

The 9-year-old’s advice to others? Stay positive.

“If you want to give up — never give up,” Guy said. “Always stick to your plans of life. And always have love and care [for the] people that you have.”
