Puppy found bleeding from the head rescued and looking for a forever home

Tom Barr took in the dog, now named Jubilee, and kept her warm until Pound Buddies could come and get her to the shelter.

MUSKEGON, Mich — A dog in Muskegon is recovering today thanks to a resident who kept her alive until a shelter could take her in.

The dog, who now is named Jubilee, is full of energy and loves meeting new people, a far cry from how she was doing when she came to Pound Buddies bleeding from her head last week.

Tom Barr's neighbor spotted the dog outside of a home in their neighborhood.

"He found this little lady curled up in the corner on the guy's porch," said Barr.

Unable to get to her himself, the neighbor woke up Barr around 4 a.m.

He immediately leaped out of bed.

"I came out to look and he thought she had a bullet hole in the top of her head," said Barr. "But it turns out it was a dog bite."

Bleeding profusely and unable to get help, Barr took her in to get her warmed up.

"She was crying and she was hurt," said Barr. "I didn't think she was going to make it overnight. So I didn't sleep good."

Fortunately, she did make it. Barr called Pound Buddies in the morning to come get her.

"You could tell that she did not feel good," said Lana Carson, director of Pound Buddies. "You could smell the infection that had already started to, you know, kind of set in."

Even though Jubilee was still scared, Barr knew it was only a matter of time until that changed.

"I just knew she was a sweetheart and needed some love," he said.

Now, she's been medically cleared and is up for adoption, largely made possible thanks to Barr's kindness.

"Kudos to him for taking her on and keeping her safe and then giving us a call so that we can take it from there," said Carson.

Not only saving her life but giving her the chance for a better one.

"She's had a rough start in life," said Barr. "But she's young. She knows what it is now to be comfortable and to be loved."
