5 signs of a burnout and how to prevent it

Life can get pretty hectic, so much so that it can even burn us out. Don't let that happen with these tips from relationship expert, Dr. Megan Stubbs.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Between family life and work, for many of us, life can get pretty hectic. And, if we're not careful all that running around can burn us out. Relationship expert, Dr. Megan Stubbs shares how to recognize the signs of burnout and how to prevent it.

Signs of burnout

  • No Energy. No motivation to complete your tasks.
  • Everything annoys you. You have a short fuse and find others irritable.
  • Decreased satisfaction. The things you usually enjoy when you want to have fun have lost their appeal.
  • No Work/Life Balance. When you find yourself spending extended amounts of time on work and cannot remember when you just had a fun night out with friends.
  • Poor Self-Care

How to fight burnout

  • Put yourself first. Take care of your health. (sleep enough, making sure you eat, drink enough water)
  • Get out. Whether that is out of the office, out of your house. Go on a walk, take a vacation. Get out of your current space
  • Be able to recognize the signs of burnout. The idea isn't to 'treat yourself', while that is important too, this is for establishing practices/activities/rituals in your life so you don't find yourself on the brink of burnout.
