New owners begin construction at old Forest Hills Inn

Construction work is finally underway on the old Forest Hills Inn.

Construction work is finally underway on the old Forest Hills Inn.

The 30-year-old restaurant sits on a very busy corner on Forest Hills and Cascade roads. According to documents filed with Grand Rapids Township, the new restaurant will include indoor and outdoor space.

The front that faces Forest Hills Road will be expanded to make room for a patio, and the Cascade Road side will be expanded slightly to allow more indoor space.

As for parking, minus a few spots, the lot itself largely will remain the same. During busy times, Grand Rapids Township Supervisor Michael DeVries says they were told that nearby business Kennedy Floral will allow use of its parking lot during its off hours.

As for the name of the new restaurant? DeVries says he doesn't even know.

The buyers are listed as a group of "investors" and so far, no one specific has come forward. DeVries says the new space will still be family friendly and will be a big improvement over what used to be in that space.

According to records, the Forest Hills Inn property is slightly less than 1 acre and sold for $1.29 million. No word on when it will re-open.
