Thomas S. Fox Diamond Jewelers closing after nearly 100 years

After nearly 100 years of serving West Michigan the Thomas S. Fox jewelry store is closing its doors for good in June.

Thomas S. Fox jewelry store is closing its Grand Rapids area store after nearly a century serving West Michigan.

The Fox Jewelry Company opened in downtown Grand Rapids in 1917. They moved into their current location on 28th Street across from the Woodland Mall in 2001.

Owner Thomas S. Fox, and president John Turrentine say the store will close in June.

Turrentine says, "Obviously, this is a very difficult decision. However, after much consideration, I have decided to pursue other career opportunities.”

The store will begin a Going Out of Business sale in mid-April.

Fox, a third-generation jeweler, worked with his father during high school and college, before joining the family business in 1951. He sold the business and retired in 1990, before coming back when the current store opened. Turrentine, Fox's son-in-law joined the company at that time. He became president of Thomas S. Fox Diamond Jewelers in 2003.
