MUSKEGON, Mich. — Repairs are in the works for warning equipment that's not working properly at the Laketon Avenue railroad crossing in the city of Muskegon.

Tom Ciuba, vice president of communications for Genesee & Wyoming Railroad Services Inc. tells 13 ON YOUR SIDE repairs at the crossing will begin Monday, Dec. 20.

One of two crossing gates at the railroad crossing is currently being held in the open position by a ratchet strap.

Because the crossing is in need of repair, it will be included in the Genesee & Wyoming Railroad railroad's daily operating bulletin.

"That means a train will stop before occupying the crossing," Ciuba said. "And a conductor on crew will come down from the train to flag the crossing before a train proceeds through,"

Safety concerns at a crossing should be reported to 911. Additionally,
each crossing includes a small blue sign with the crossing's unique identification code and a 1-800 number to report problems to rail line operators.
