Deputies investigate complaints after suspicious man approaches women in Ottawa County

Bennett says there was one common request from the man.

ALLENDALE, Mich. — Captain Mark Bennett has received multiple complaints from several different women in Ottawa County about incidents involving a suspicious man.

"It is a big deal, whether it's a crime or not, if It's important to the citizens it's a big deal." Bennett says. "This came to us via Facebook, call-ins to our dispatch for law enforcement services and another came from a partner agency, so several sources."

Those calls all came from several woman who say they were approached by a man around 6-feet tall, with brown hair and facial hair. Bennett says there was one common request from the man.

"Will you go to a hotel with me? Will you participate in a particular wrestling event? Very strange requests. I would say out of the ordinary in this context," says Bennett.

Out of the ordinary because the women were approached at places like the Family Fare Supermarket in Allendale and the Dollar Tree near Lake Michigan Drive. One woman saying, "I felt like he was following me and acting suspicious."

"We have some leads as to who this individual may be. We're following up on those," says Bennett.

But at this point no arrests have been made because deputies are not aware of a specific crime.

"No one to our knowledge has been accosted or grabbed or assaulted and we don't want it to get to that point that's why we are encouraging folks to call us," says Bennett.

Deputies say there are still women out there they would like to speak with. If you know anything about this investigation please contact the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office.
