'My brother is an angel' | Family mourns loss of 20-year-old killed in Kentwood shooting

Martín Eduardo Martinez-Ramirez was found dead inside a vehicle early Saturday morning. No arrests have been made.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A Grand Rapid family is fighting for answers after Martín Eduardo Martinez-Ramirez was found dead inside a vehicle over the weekend.

Pilar Martinez describes her brother as a perfect person. She said he was a man of God. Someone who loved his family. He took care of his health and lived a life of kindness.

“My brother, he is an angel. He was the most selfless person,” Martinez said.

She said she and her brother did everything together and had each other’s back.

"That was my brother. My best friend. My other half. My partner in crime,” said Martinez.

His life was cut short due to what she said was an act of senseless violence.

At just 20 years old, Martin Eduardo Martinez-Ramirez was shot and killed early Saturday morning.

His body was found in a vehicle on Wing Avenue in Kentwood.

"I just can't wrap my head around why someone would do this,” said Martinez. "For someone to take his life away. I just want to know why."

Pilar said there’s no clear reason as to how or why this happened because her brother stayed out of trouble and lived a life of positivity.

That’s why she is fighting for answers and making sure people remember her brother for who he was and not as a statistic.

"I want justice for my brother because he did not deserve that. And the fact that someone is out there continuing their life while my brother's life was cut short. It's unfair,” said Martinez.

No arrests have been made and people are encouraged to come forward.

The family has set up a GoFundMe account to help pay for funeral services.
