KENT COUNTY, Mich. — Enrollment for the fall semester of Kent Intermediate School District's (ISD) free preschool program is now open to eligible families.

The free preschool is part of Michigan's Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP), which has been ranked the top free preschool program in the nation.

This comes after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer allocated $254.6 million to expand free pre-K for up to 5,600 kids last summer.

Students must turn 4 before or on Dec. 1, 2024, and parents must make below $90,000 per year to be eligible for the program. Eligible students who will turn 4 before Sept. 1 will receive priority in the Kent ISD system.

“Enrollment in affordable, high-quality preschool is one of the best ways to prepare children for success in school and life,” said Ashley Karsten, Director of Early Childhood at Kent ISD. “We are excited to be able to offer Great Start Readiness Program preschool to more families next year!”

If students aren't eligible, they can still enroll for a small fee.

Most locations participating in the program offer preschool Monday through Thursday. While some offer programming each weekday, you should call the Great Start Readiness Program at 616-447-2409 to find those locations.
