Grand Rapids native, former MSU punter remembered at Founders Brewing Company

"We've been tracking ticket sales, so I knew it was going to be big, but this is really big," Karen Sadler said.

It was all for Mike Sadler, the former Michigan State punter who died in a car accident July 2016.

"Mike was a big fan of Founders, he spent a lot of time here," Founders Chief Operating Officer Chase Kushak said.

"We chose to have a celebration of life instead of mourning his loss because we knew that he would want us to be happy and celebrate all of the accomplishments he had instead of really focusing on his death, so we wanted everyone to celebrate and have a good time and just be happy for him," Katie Sadler said.

Nearly 1,000 people packed the brewery.

"The fact that all of these people are here today because of him and who he was, I couldn't be more proud," Karen Sadler said.

Mike's name even made it to the big board.

"We also brewed a special beer called Sadler's Run that we're featuring only in the taproom today. It's an apricot wheat and everybody that comes in gets a chance to sample that beer," Kushak said.

"He'd probably be taking many pictures with the beer on the board, because he'd be so happy to have his name up there," Katie Sadler said.

Between the MSU's cheer team, dance team and even Sparty himself, Sadler's name and number were remembered.

"Look at the board, this is all because of you, look around this is all because of you, you did good," Karen Sadler said.
