Group that rescued Shaggy the dog gets major honor

The animal rescue group that saved a dog who was on the loose in Kent County for four months is the winner of a prestigious award.

NEWPORT, Mich. (WZZM) -- The animal rescue group that saved a dog who was on the loose in Kent County for months is the winner of a prestigious award.

You may remember the case of Shaggy, the dog who eluded capture and wandered the streets of Cascade Township last winter.

After being captured, Shaggy was sent to the Devoted Barn near Detroit to make the animal more adoptable.

We've learned the Devoted Barn has been voted best shelter of the year by the Westminster Dog Show.

Shaggy continues undergoing training.
