STURGIS, Mich. — An Amish horse and buggy was stolen from a grocery store parking lot while the owners shopped inside, Sturgis Police say.

It happened Saturday around 5:30 p.m. at the Walmart on Centerville Road. The victims walked outside the store and saw their horse and buggy was gone.

A witness spotted a woman steal the buggy and described her to police. Officers apparently had contact with her earlier that day at the same Walmart.

The buggy was found empty in the 1200 block of East Chicago Road later that night. The woman, 31, was found at a nearby hotel, police say.

She was arrested without incident. She's lodged at St. Joseph County Jail on charges of larceny and larceny of livestock awaiting an arraignment.

The horse was unharmed and returned to its family, police say.
