Kent Co. man arrested for threatening to kill police

He told police his desire to "blow up a cop shop,'' records show
Sylvester Estes, 32, is being held on a $200,000 bond

CEDAR SPRINGS, Mich. (WZZM) - A Cedar Springs man who expressed his desire to "blow up a cop shop'' has been charged with making a false report or threat of terrorism.

Sylvester Jacob Estes, 32, has a probable cause hearing in 63rd District Court next week on the felony charge, which is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

The incident unfolded April 23, when police say Estes called 911 dispatchers and said he was going to "harm people and kill police officers,'' according to a probable cause affidavit in 63rd District Court.

Estes also stated he had access to weapons and was on his way to get them, court records show.

When deputies caught up with Estes, his story remained unchanged. "The suspect stated to officers that his intention was to blow up a cop shop,'' according to the probable cause affidavit.

Estes was arrested and taken to the Kent County Jail, where he remains on a $200,000 bond.

He is also charged with being a habitual offender for a 2009 conviction in Kent County for stealing a car. He was released from prison on that case in June 2012.
